My daughter turned 3 today and the one thing she asked for was a purple train cake.
I asked her if she wanted to do something fun for her birthday.
She said, “I want to eat cake.”
Train Birthday Cake {Gluten Free, Dairy Free}
My daughter really really likes to play with the Thomas wooden trains, so it was fitting that her birthday cake was a train. Her favorite color is purple {for the time being}, so it was obvious that the cake needed to be purple.
Then, we discovered that there actually is a purple train in the Thomas set, named Lady.

My daughter then went around telling people that she was having a purple Lady cake for her birthday.
It still makes me laugh, thinking about how that must have sounded.

I made up a batch of Vanilla Cake {Gluten Free, Dairy Free} and baked it in a rectangle pan.
Once the cake had cooled, I followed along with this tutorial on how to cut and layer the cake to make it actually resemble a train.

The frosting is simply: Spectrum Shortening, Powdered Sugar and vanilla.
The cake tasted great. The birthday girl was excited to have her “Lady” cake.
Fun was had by all.

Oh, how cute. I bet your daughter LOVED her Lady cake. It really looks delicious, and you did a great replica of the train!!
Cute cute cute cake
You did a really great job on creating “Lady”.
I also like that you used regular butter cream frosting instead of fondant which doesn’t taste good. Cakes need to look good and taste good.
I think all of us want to “eat cake” on our birthdays. But most of us don’t get such a beautiful cake to eat.
My daughter is obsessed with Chuggington and Thomas and wants a Wilson cake for her birthday and I was stumped…but this looks great!
I’m sure your daughter loved her cake!
Absolutely precious!!
Happy Birthday to the Birthday Girl and special congrat’s to you on a great cake. It even looks delicious on the inside. Fun, Fun! You are making precious memories for your daughter that she will carry in her heart all of her life.
Thank you so much for sharing with Full Plate Thursday and hope to see you next week!
Great Fun! Great Momma!
This is so cute! I am very impressed by your cake…I’m an awful cake decorator, so I love to see what other people can do.
What a cake! So gorgeous for a little one. I love your creativity.
When you say, rectangle pan, what do you mean? Thanks
What’s up all, here every person is sharing these kinds of familiarity, thus it’s good to read
this blog, and I used to go to see this blog daily.
