Oh Harry&David, why o’ why must your Moose Munch be so costly (both financially and calorie wise?). Can’t a girl get some chocolate covered popcorn without breaking the bank (or the scale)?
To that I say, “Yes, yes you can.”
First things first: Make air popped popcorn. No need to butter/oil this popcorn. It will get plenty of love later on.
Then, melt chocolate chips {I used Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet} in a double boiler. I always throw in a little Spectrum shortening with it (or butter if you are not Dairy Free). Remove the chocolate from the heat before it is completely melted, but continue to stir it. You don’t want to burn the chocolate, or it will become clumpy and irreversibly weird. Believe me. Its sad.
Put the popcorn in a large bowl. Pour the melted chocolate over the popcorn. Toss in extras such as: dried fruit {craisens, raisens, blueberry}, nuts {walnuts, pecans, honey roasted peanuts}, etc. Let your imagination soar!
Sprinkle on some salt if desired. Stir to coat the popcorn and the extras. Spread the popcorn out onto a wax paper lined baking sheet. Let the chocolate harden. Then, enjoy your own Moose Munch!

My popcorn was only partially chocolate covered, but that was the way I intended it. I did half a batch with craisens mixed in, and the other half with walnuts. And of course some extra salt. YUM.
Was it as good as the Moose Munch from Harry&David? Honestly, no. But again, that is because I didn’t slather it in chocolate. If you want the full effect, pour on more melted chocolate to fully coat.
~Enjoy

This recipe really got my attention.
I love Harry & David’s dark choc covered Moose Munch.
The sad part is that I have a gluten reaction to their product….. so sad.
And I hate paying so much for popcorn coated with not-so-great chocolate.
You’ve changed sad to happy.
I can make my own – and so easily.
And I can control how much chocolate to put on my popcorn.
During mid-winter with another snowstorm on the way, I vote for lots of chocolate.
I’ll make some to bring to work and share.
What did you use for the bag in your photo?
the bags i used were from a “cookie swap” kit i had been given a while ago. i am sure you could find bags at Michaels or something
What a great idea — this looks like a real treat.
Thanks, and thanks for linking to the post!
Yum! That looks delicious! Thanks for linking up to Made From Scratch Tuesday!
Wow. Can’t wait to taste it.
sorry, all gone! it lasted a day, maybe two!!
Looks yummy! I thought theirs had some caramel on it too? No?
The Harry&David Moose Munch may have caramel. I know that they have a lot of variations of their Moose Munch. We are dairy free though, so I havent attempted making caramel corn yet without butter.
I’ve had some bad gluten reactions to Moose Munch too. I think it might be a cross-contamination issue.
